DIY solution to unblocking a blocked toilet in Preston Lancashire

1. Gather Your Tools

  • Plunger

  • Rubber gloves

  • Bucket

  • Toilet auger (if needed)

  • Old towels or rags

2. Prepare the Area

  • Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.

  • Use old towels or rags to soak up any spills around the toilet.

  • Keep a bucket handy to remove excess water if necessary.

3. Use a Plunger

  • Place the plunger in the toilet bowl, ensuring it covers the hole completely.

  • Push down gently to create a seal, then pull up sharply to break the seal.

  • Repeat this process vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.

  • Flush the toilet to see if the blockage has cleared.

4. Try a Toilet Auger

  • If the plunger does not work, use a toilet auger.

  • Insert the auger into the toilet bowl and push it down the drain until you feel resistance.

  • Rotate the handle to break up the blockage or pull it out.

  • Flush the toilet again to check if the water drains properly.

5. Use Hot Water and Dish Soap

  • If the blockage persists, pour a generous amount of dish soap into the toilet bowl.

  • Heat a bucket of water (not boiling) and carefully pour it into the bowl from waist height.

  • Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes, then try flushing again.
